Your responsibilities
As “Component Engineer“, you manage component lifecycle (new component introduction, component change and obsolescence) for all mechanical and electromechanical (M/EM) components pertaining to the Bill of Materials (BOM) of active products and components database, including new part approval, obsolescence, and change management. Moreover, you ensure correct classification of mechanical components and materials for quick assessment regarding different directives and regulations and support our supply chain, quality and design teams, providing a state-of-the-art approach to component lifecycle. The main responsibilities for this role are as follows:
Obsolescence management (mechanical and electromechanical components:
- Be responsible for BOM review check, ensuring that E/EM listed components can be sourced, are compliant with different regulations and properly classified in our components database.
- Provide obsolescence report status to customers, Project managers, Sales and Program Management
- Conduct Form/Fit/Function analysis, search alternates for obsolete components
- Manage and coordinate actively obsolescence problems until resolution. If needed, launch and lead specific projects to resolve obsolescence problems. Follow component lifecycle in database and proactively issue preventive actions to avoid future component obsolescence problems
- With the support of the Design Engineers, analyze the impact of the Product Change Notification (PCN) / Product Discontinuation Notification (PDN) / errata contents, for each identified part
New component introduction and component change (mechanical and electromechanical components)
- Maintain and enforce a minimized standard component list
- Maintain and enforce a part approval process including environmental conditions, spanet availability, life cycle data, reliability and failure data, cost reduction, trade compliance classification with all stakeholders involved
- Ensure that components with limits or restrictions, if fundamental, are identified for, ensuring correct use by engineering or production
- Monitor technological developments and recommend new technologies
- Support manufacturer approvals (new and legacy)
- Participate to technical proposal and cost estimates; support projects as requested, investigate, and propose alternate solution to design engineering where necessary
- Ensure selected components are aligned with product life cycle requirements
- Ensure configuration management within the master embedded database in SAP
- Maintain required processes for the management of component lifecycle and gather Key Performance Indicators (KPI) as required.
Who we are looking for
- Degree in Electronics, materials, industrial engineering, or equivalent
- 3 years of experience in mechanical design, materials, industrial engineering or connectivity engineering
- Knowledge of Solidworks or equivalent 3D tool
- Knowledge on connectivity related norms, materials and mechanical finishings
- Autonomous, proactive and open attitude
- Rigor and strong organizational skills with the ability to deal with large volumes of data in different tools
- Strong team player, while being able to work independently
- Fluent in English and French (German would be a plus)
Ideally, you will also have
- Knowledge of aerospace norms
- Knowledge on materials in particular for sensing applications (piezoelectric materials)
