Pratt & Whitney, Materials and Process Engineering (MPE) organization in East Hartford, CT is looking for a highly motivated Senior Principal Engineer- Materials and Process Modeling who can support the development and implementation of modeling tools and methods for gas turbine engine applications.
A successful candidate will become part of a highly focused materials modeling team in a fast moving and challenging environment.
- Support the development, implementation, and maturation of various process and property modeling and simulation tools and methods.
- Development and implementation of new computational tools, process monitoring, data capture and mining methods.
- Identifying material characterization requirements, including mechanical test methods development for mechanistic model calibration and validation.
- Will assess current state of modeling tools and methods in MPE and support the utilization of such tools and methods.
- Obtaining internal and external funding, assessing current model or method maturity, standardizing requirements for documentation, new model development and validation as appropriate.
- Developing and executing project plans and cost estimates, meeting schedule milestones and reporting progress to management.
- Work with cross functional teams including Materials Development and Characterization, Manufacturing, Design, Structures and Lifing Disciplines.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelors Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or related technical field and 10+ years of experience in Materials and Process Modeling Techniques OR an Advanced Degree and 7+ years of experience in Materials and Process Modeling Techniques
- US Citizenship required due to government contracts
- Travel 10
Qualifications We Prefer:
- PhD degree in Materials Science or Metallurgy
- 15+ years of experience with Materials Modeling or Process Modeling
- Expertise in Finite Element Methods (FEM), including use of software tools such as DEFORM, ABAQUS, ANSYS and/or LS-DYNA to simulate material processes and behavior under manufacturing and engine service conditions.
- Expertise in key materials manufacturing processes (such as forging, rolling or machining) as well as material testing and characterization methods.
- Proficient in programing languages, FORTRAN, Python and/or C++ to develop user-based routines for multi-scale simulations.
- Expertise in using microstructure and microtexture characterization and reconstruction using tools such as DREAM-3D for multi-scale modeling.
- Proficient in CAD software, e.g., AutoCAD, Solidworks
- Familiarity with technology and manufacturing development (TRL/MRL) and government contracting processes.
- Experience with RTX Core/Continuous Improvement or Six Sigma tools is a plus.

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
