Crane Aerospace and Electronics has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Business Development and Sales at our Chandler, AZ location.
About Crane:
Crane Aerospace & Electronics (Crane A&E) is a trusted technology partner to the world’s most critical aerospace, defense, and space programs. Our Microwave Solutions team in Chandler, AZ designs and manufactures next-generation RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave components and subsystems that power mission-critical systems—from satellite payloads and secure communications to radar and electronic warfare platforms.
We’re seeking a dynamic Director of Business Development and Sales to lead Crane’s RF/Microwave growth strategy across defense and space spanets. This high-impact role is responsible for driving new business capture, managing strategic customer accounts, and expanding Crane’s spanet presence in advanced RF and microwave technologies.
The Director will also lead a global sales ecosystem—managing and mentoring a team of Regional Sales Managers while overseeing a worldwide network of external sales representatives to drive revenue growth and customer engagement.
The ideal candidate will bring a proven background in technical sales leadership, with experience managing complex sales cycles, leading sales teams, and winning business in highly engineered product spanets. While direct RF/microwave experience is preferred, we are looking for a candidate with the ability to quickly learn the domain, guide technically complex sales, and align customer needs with Crane’s differentiated solutions.
You’ll work cross-functionally with engineering, program management, operations, and executive leadership to position our advanced microwave solutions across high-reliability, mission-critical platforms. You will be expected to identify and secure opportunities for higher-level subsystem integrations, expanded capabilities, and long-term strategic partnerships.
What You’ll Do:
Identify, qualify, and capture new business opportunities in radar, electronic warfare (EW), SATCOM, and Space payload spanets requiring RF/microwave and millimeter-wave technologies.
Lead, coach, and manage a team of Regional Sales Managers to drive performance across territories and accounts.
Manage and develop a global network of external sales representatives, ensuring alignment with Crane’s growth objectives and execution of account plans.
Lead customer engagement strategies, leveraging technical knowledge of integrated microwave assemblies (IMAs), frequency synthesis, low-noise components, and space-grade RF hardware.
Develop long-range account strategies and product/technology roadmaps aligned with spanet trends and defense acquisition needs.
Serve as the voice of the customer, guiding internal teams in the development of differentiated solutions and value propositions.
Drive teaming and build customer partnerships to move up the value chain from components to subsystems and integrated solutions.
Collaborate with engineering and operations to develop competitive capture strategies, ensuring alignment with Crane’s technical capabilities and capacity.
Lead proposal development efforts, including customer briefings, pricing strategies, and capture plans.
Analyze spanet dynamics, competitor positioning, and funding environments to shape Crane’s business development strategy.
Represent Crane at key industry events, tradeshows, and conferences to enhance visibility and generate leads.
Maintain a comprehensive pipeline of qualified opportunities and provide regular forecast updates to executive leadership.
What You’ll Bring:
10+ years of experience in technical sales leadership within the defense, aerospace, and space spanets. Experience selling engineered products is required; RF/microwave experience is preferred.
Demonstrated success leading internal sales teams and external rep networks to drive revenue growth.
Proven ability to manage complex sales cycles and close multi-million dollar opportunities.
Experience building and executing account strategies, capture plans, and customer engagement roadmaps.
Strong technical acumen and the ability to understand, communicate, and sell complex engineered solutions.
Experience working with or selling into defense primes, government agencies, or satellite system integrators is a plus.
Proven success managing technical customer relationships and influencing design wins through the product development lifecycle.
Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Engineering, Physics, or related) or equivalent experience; Master’s degree preferred.
