This is a hybrid work position in Calgary Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) a minimum of 3 days per week.
The Senior Manager – Operational Performance leads WestJet’s enterprise-wide operational performance improvement agenda. This role is accountable for a team of cross-functional Performance Advisors and plays a critical leadership role in identifying, evaluating, planning, implementing, and sustaining operational improvements. This position drives measurable enhancements to schedule and network reliability, resilience, and efficiency in alignment with WestJet’s long-range strategy.
This position is intended to support enterprise change at scale, lead a portfolio of performance initiatives that impact long-term strategy execution, and establish best practices in operational process and execution leadership.
Key deliverables include:
- Lead a team of Performance Advisors across all operational domains (including - Flight Operations, Technical Operations, Inflight, Airports, OCC)
- Work cross-functionally to identify, assess and prioritize key performance improvement opportunities
- Develop and maintain WestJet’s operational transformation roadmap (including - key workstreams, initiatives, activities, milestones, owners, etc.)
- Govern the delivery of all operational performance initiatives over the multi-year period to achieve WestJet’s operational KPIs / targets in alignment with the multi-year plan
- Partner with Operations, Commercial, IT, Finance and other key stakeholders to ensure end-to-end execution of the transformation roadmap
- Track value capture as it occurs through the transformation process / plan.
- Report on progress against key targets on a regular basis
- Ensure alignment with WestJet’s overall integrated commercial and operational plan
- Facilitate regular prioritization and trade-off discussions and workshops throughout the plan
- Develop key learnings and embed these into future delivery processes
Experience and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Business, Engineering, or related field
- A Master’s degree, Lean Six Sigma certification, or PMP designation is an asset
- Minimum 6-8 years of progressive experience in airline or transportation operations, with a focus on performance management, analytics, or operational planning
- Proven leadership experience, including managing teams and cross-functional projects
- Strong analytical skills with expertise in tools such as Excel, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms
- Solid understanding of airline operational performance metrics (A15, completion factor, MBR, etc.)
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels
- Ability to synthesize complex operational data into clear insights and actionable strategies
- Occasional travel is required to operational hubs and partner locations
