We’re hiring a Manufacturing Estimator to help drive our continued success!
Purpose of the role
MHIRJ’s network of service centers, support offices and parts depots are positioned in important aviation hubs in the U.S. The Manufacturing Estimator works autonomously to provide timely and accurate quotes to customers, assessing costs associated with various business operations and projects. This position reports directly to the Manufacturing Supervisor.
Here are the daily responsibilities of a Manufacturing Estimator:
- Analyze technical drawings and CAD files to assess manufacturing requirements
- Estimate costs for machined parts, assemblies, and surface treatments
- Evaluate labor, material, tooling, and overhead costs and subcontracting costs
- Works in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
- Develop and maintain cost models and estimation templates, including estimation tools, templates
- Represents the manufacturing department cross-functionally
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and procurement teams to validate cost assumptions
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and support RFQs and customer proposals, including clear and concise documentation
- Provides customers with firm, fixed price and lead times
- Work autonomous; manage multiple estimation requests under tight deadlines with a strong sense of urgency
- Conducts in-depth cost analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities
Here is what is required to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree plus 1-3 years related experience OR High School diploma plus 5-7 years of experience in an aviation parts manufacturing environment OR an equivalent combination of education, experience and training
- 4+ years of experience in manufacturing cost estimation, preferably in a machine shop
- Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective working relationships with sales team, material logistics team, suppliers, and other departments
- Strong understanding of machining processes, assembly, and surface treatments
- Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings and technical documentation
- High level of autonomy, initiative, and sense of urgency
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word)
- Experience with CATIA and/or AutoCAD - asset
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles – asset
- Experience in aerospace, automotive, or industrial equipment sectors - asset
