The Shipping assistant’s primary responsibility is to safely prepare materials for ground transportation, assist shippers to safely prepare materials for ocean and air modes to ensure an uninterrupted supply of goods and materials to our customers.
Responsibilities
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES• Basic understanding of shipping documentation with focus on material allocations, packaging, labeling, and transportation requirements.• Pull materials from the warehouse using established best practices and utilizing material handling equipment such as forklifts and powered carts.• Prepare packages for ground transport. • Assist to prepare packages for air or ocean transport.• Ability to navigate DOT regulations with assistance and prepare hazardous materials for transportation according to US DOT requirements. This includes packaging, spaning, labeling, and placarding. • Understand and adhere to best practices and quality standards related to packaging, palletizing, and securing.• Operate various shipping equipment including but not limited to; wrap machines, drum/pail hoists and strapping tools.• Load trucks and export cargo units using safe handling and securing protocol.• Interface with truck drivers.• Utilize SAP for inventory review. • Repetitively lift materials weighing between 30 and 50 pounds (up to 50 of the time).• Work in all weather conditions.
Qualifications
WORK EXPERIENCEPREFERRED• Warehousing, shipping, receiving, or manufacturing experience.• Previous experience with SAP GUI or console
EDUCATIONREQUIRED• High school diploma or equivalent.PREFERRED• Secondary education.
